Johnson County AADC Commissioning
sys-tek is the Commissioning Authority for a $55.5 million detention center in Johnson County, Kansas. sys-tek is assuring that commissioning requirements are designed in from the inception of the project and will be there to test and verify the facility works as intended at project completion.
Overland Park CIP Budgeting Engineering Assistance
sys-tek is providing assistance to the City of Overland Park for capital improvements on existing equipment and systems, including air handling systems, chillers, cooling towers, heating systems, DX systems, fire alarm, security systems, generators, and building automation systems. sys-tek will help establish budgets for 2010 and future years with inflation rates by reviewing data, site inspections, and building-by-building inquisition from city staff.
City of Independence Fire Station #1 - Phase II
sys-tek has begun engineering on Phase II for the City of Independence Fire Station #1, including renovating bunk area quarters, kitchen, fire truck bays, office area and garage. Included with the engineering design is the City of Independence Emergency Operations Center, which will include renovating the garage for training rooms, conference rooms, offices, a large operations center and IPL data center. Independence Power & Light will also have a subsidiary data center and computer lab for emergency operations. sys-tek is providing MEP for infrared heating, instantaneous water heaters, and data center racking/tray infrastructure as well.
UMKC Administration Data Center Cooling
sys-tek is designing an expansion of cooling capacity for UMKC's Administrative Building Data Center. The proposed installation will provide a new DX cooling unit and ductwork systems, using the existing systems for cooling redundancy.
JOCO Airport Detention Center Campus
sys-tek is currently evaluating seven buildings at the Johnson County Airport Detention Center campus. This evaluation will identify operational and capital investment requirements as facility management responsibilities transfer from the Sheriff's Department to the Facilities Department. Evaluations will include electrical systems, building automation systems, mechanical systems and all equipment. Outcome of this project will be a prioritized list of capital and operation improvements that may be implemented in these facilities.
UMKC Chemistry/Biology & Dental School
UMKC has selected sys-tek to upgrade the electrical infrastructure in the Spencer Chemistry and Bio Sciences Building and its School of Dentistry. The work within the Spencer Building includes replacement of all busway serving the laboratories with new panelboards and associated distribution equipment. All work must be completed while the building remains in operation. Work within the School of Dentistry requires the replacement of the original main electrical switchgear. In addition, the project includes the installation of a new emergency power riser, and a complete arc flash hazard assessment.
Intervet General Engineering
sys-tek is providing ongoing general engineering services to Intervet, Inc., a division of Schering-Plough Animal Health. This project is a good example of the close working relationship we have with Intervet. Our employees are working directly on-site for the duration of this project, are updating Production Facility as-built drawings, documenting existing conditions, and providing general design of process improvements.
Intervet SB SIP Monitoring
sys-tek is providing engineering design services to develop a temperature monitoring system for its serial batching tanks, ranging from 3000L to 5000L. The purpose of this system is to ensure that sterilization temperatures are consistently achieved throughout all process and transfer piping related to the serial batch tanks. Work on this project is being completed at the Intervet site, working alongside the facilities staff.
AT&T Jefferson Toll 11th Floor Power and Equipment Room
sys-tek is continuing its on-going relationship with AT&T by providing engineering work for an 11th floor power and data infill at the Jefferson Toll building in downtown Houston, Texas. The engineering approach will be a red-blue redundancy system for both power and HVAC systems. The data side will incorporate a raised floor system, which will include an underfloor HVAC system. sys-tek is looking forward to getting back into the AT&T mission critical work, as they have been a high priority client for the firm for many years.
CLS Renovation and Addition
sys-tek is providing engineering services for the community service league building in Independence, MO. The unique architectural approach was to utilize the existing warehouse building and conceal and wrap a newer aesthetic surrounding building. The new 2-story building will have a pantry, warehouse storage, kitchen, office support areas, large conference room, and on-site transit program. This new building will have a sustainable green design, including heat pump HVAC units, energy efficient lighting and controls, and open ceiling systems. This project will be a first for sys-tek, as it will be the first building information modeling (revit) project done in the office.
SLM Windborne Dentist Office
sys-tek is providing engineering services for a dentist office in Ft. Smith Arkansas. The remodel work will provide eight (8) patient operatory rooms, labs, and office space. Engineering will consist of med-gas piping distribution, new HVAC systems, lighting, four restrooms, and new electrical service. sys-tek is more than pleased to begin work with this new client in Arkansas.
Kansas City Aviation Department
sys-tek is providing Commissioning & TAB services for the new Kansas City Aviation Department's Airfield Snow Removal Equipment Building. The project includes Commissioning & Balancing ten (10) Make Up Air Handling Units with CO sensor control, four (4) new Heating Hot Water Boilers, one (1) Heat Exchanger system, and associated pumps and controls.
JOCO Sheriff Emergency Power Study
sys-tek is providing engineering support to evaluate existing and projected emergency power requirements for all Johnson County Sheriff Office facilities in the Gardner, KS Detention Center campus. The study will evaluate anticipated requirements, as well as existing generator/UPS capacity.
Centralia Chiller Review
sys-tek was contacted by legal counsel for a contractor performing construction for a new school in Centralia, MO. During construction, a chiller had been dropped and the contractor needed data support before and after performance data. sys-tek was contacted by legal counsel because of its expertise in commissioning and in chiller performance. sys-tek moved schedules around to be available on short notice. Work was recently completed successfully!
sys-tek Announces New Director of Engineering
sys-tek is pleased to announce the addition of a new member to our team. Cory Wilson is the new Director of Engineering at sys-tek. Cory comes with over seven years of experience having worked as a Project Engineer and a Project Manager. His resume includes some 200 projects in 10 different states. Cory specialized in commercial, educational, retail, religious, high-rise, hospitality, and institutional type buildings. He is highly touted for his proficiency, client relations, project management, updated technology designs, green MEP designs, and high end lighting systems. He is currently a licensed mechanical and electrical engineer in seven states. sys-tek is pleased to be adding another highly qualified and experienced member to their passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgeable team.
Lake City Ammunition Plant
sys-tek is providing HVAC engineering design and layout, bid and construction administration and commissioning, startup and testing services for the kitchen ventilation systems for the Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO.
Independence Entrepreneurial Center/Independence School District
This building is the former 80 plus year old building which housed the Independence Regional Health Center. sys-tek is partnering with Hollis & Miller Architects in a two phase project to convert the building into a business incubator facility. Phase I will renovate a total of 254,000 square feet of the former hospital tower on the south side of the campus, converting former surgical suites into labs for bio-technology companies and turning kitchens into culinary suites. The building will also include space for the Independence School District programs and services.

BIVI Project Management
sys-tek has had a contract with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., a pharmaceutical manufacturer located in St. Joseph, MO, to provide on site project management services since 2007. During this term, one sys-tek project manager is working full time at the BIVI site, assisting in managing capital and engineering projects.
BIVI Building P Virus Modernization
sys-tek is designing the renovation of BIVI’s Building P Virus Production Suite. The existing space has been in service over 20 years without significant renovation. The space is being reorganized to better support efficient manufacturing and new technologies. The design will exceed USDA requirements for biological manufacturing. This project also includes a complete replacement of the Purified Water storage and distribution system, and the addition of Pure Steam, Clean in Place, and Process Waste Treatment systems.
