Q. How much does commissioning cost?

A. A good rule of thumb for commissioning costs is $1 to $3 per square foot for new construction and $0.30 to $0.60 per square foot for existing buildings. Costs will vary depending on the level of commissioning and the complexity of the building. Median payback for renovation is 0.7 years and new construction is 4.8 years. It is a great investment.

Lake City Ammunition Plant

sys-tek is providing HVAC engineering design and layout, bid and construction administration and commissioning, startup and testing  services for the kitchen ventilation systems for the Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence, MO.  

Independence Entrepreneurial Center/Independence School District

This building is the former 80 plus year old building which housed the Independence Regional Health Center.  sys-tek is partnering with Hollis & Miller Architects in a two phase project to convert the building into a business incubator facility.  Phase I will renovate a total of 254,000 square feet of the former hospital tower on the south side of the campus, converting former surgical suites into labs for bio-technology companies and turning kitchens into culinary suites.  The building will also  include space for the Independence School District programs and services.

Last time we discussed the NEC requirements for installing grounding electrodes. This month, we will examine the NEC requirements for grounding electrode conductors and connections to grounding electrodes.

Grounding Electrode Conductors and Connection Requirements

Grounding electrode conductors are permitted by the NEC to be solid or stranded, insulated, covered, or bare. Grounding electrode conductors are permitted to be copper, aluminum, or copper-clad aluminum, but must be resistant to any corrosive condition existing at the installation or be suitably protected against corrosion.
